HWB Summer Concert 17/6/2023

What a great evening and some fantastic playing by the band and some brilliant solos from Flugel Horn player Robert with "The Way We Were" and Flautists Kate and Karan who gave a brilliant rendition of the "Flower Duet" from the Opera "Lakmé".

Other music included the stunning concert opener "Summon the Dragon", from the film world came "Jurassic Park" and "The Magnificent Seven".The world of stage shows gave us the music of "Andrew Lloyd Weber" , "When I Grow Up" from "Matilda" and a selection from "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory".

The band also performed two moving renditions of "Amazing Grace" and "The Irish Blessing".

Two pieces that the band played were arranged by the MD - John Turnbull - "Africa" from the 1980's hit by the group Toto and following an African theme, was an arrangement of the score from the film "Born Free", the story of Joy Adamson and the lioness, Elsa.

The ever popular "Oregon" ended the first half and the end of the programme for the evening was an arrangement of the piece "MacArthur Park".

As ever the audience wanted more and the encore music was a version of "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond.
